Staff Training Register Template for Aged Care and Home Care

How small Australian care providers can use a staff training register to track induction, refreshers, and competency records.

A staff training register helps team leaders see who has completed induction, required training, refreshers, and competency checks. For small providers, this can reduce confusion when workers are casual, part-time, or spread across locations.

Useful fields include worker name, role, training item, completion date, expiry or review date, evidence location, supervisor, and follow-up required.

Training records should connect with worker induction, competency observation, incident learnings, and any provider-specific requirements for the services delivered.

In aged care, the strengthened Quality Standards include expectations around safe and quality care. Training records can support operational oversight, but they do not replace a provider's broader workforce governance responsibilities.

Keep the register simple enough to maintain. A perfect spreadsheet that nobody updates is less useful than a clear register reviewed every month.
